LED ON is an upcoming animated projection installation from a north east based animator.
Richard, under his animation pseudonym ‘Lazerray’, is documenting the process of setting up a transportable, pop-up installation event while developing visuals to display for multiple tracks by different bands and musical artists, most of which are from the north east area.
As well as an opportunity to view all kinds of different animations, the installation also acts as a showcase for the musicians; their tracks will be played multiple times throughout the events allowing them to reach a variety of different people.
A main aim for the project is to be able to offer free in-person events in grassroots venues, the nature of which allows attendees to stay as long as they wish to observe the unique display in a casual welcoming environment. Acting as a form of ‘pop-up event’, the installation itself will appear in all kinds of different establishments over the coming year, giving people multiple opportunities to attend in different locations.
The first event will be displayed at The Cumberland Arms, Newcastle upon Tyne, on 8th and 9th August 2026.
Future events around the north east and surrounding areas are also being planned and will be announced at later dates.
Working with a development time of just under two months, and with weekly video diaries documenting the process, it is bound to be a great opportunity for those interested in the arts to follow an individual’s process for setting up something new.
Acts involved include American Wrestling, Black Rain, Class Gymnast, Ellen Moss, Groundbird, Hivemind, J. G. Winter, Kirsty Hall, Ladakee, Milne Glendinning Band, Monsav, Nano Kino, Perisher, Radikal Queen, Ten eighty trees, Yeti Thieves
